About the Federal Exemption

The 2026 federal estate tax exemption is approximately $13.99 million per person ($27.98 million per married couple with portability). The TCJA provisions that raised the exemption were made permanent under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), so the exemption is not expected to revert to the pre-TCJA level of approximately $7 million.
